This Is A Time For Faith, Not Fear

When life feels dark and uncertain, we have the opportunity to place our hand in the Savior’s hand, trust Him, and rely on His strength to carry us through.

Our world is filled with challenges—earthquakes, devastating storms, economic uncertainty, conflict, and personal trials. Many people face burdens that seem overwhelming. Yet the scriptures teach that these are times for faith, not fear.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ was approached by Jairus, whose 12-year-old daughter was gravely ill. Jairus believed the Savior could heal her, but before they reached his home, devastating news arrived: his daughter had died. Imagine the grief and despair Jairus must have felt. Yet Jesus spoke words that continue to bring hope to all who face impossible circumstances: “Do not be afraid; just believe” (Mark 5:36).

That invitation is as meaningful today as it was then. But how do we believe when life feels overwhelming? How do we strengthen our faith when anxiety and fear begin to overshadow hope?

Trials are not signs that Jesus Christ has forgotten us or that He is displeases with us.

Difficult seasons are part of mortality. They provide opportunities to deepen our faith and learn to depend on a power far greater than our own.

Faith is rarely developed during life's easiest moments. It often grows in the darkness, when we choose to trust the Lord despite uncertainty. As we reach for Him and rely on His strength, our faith becomes stronger.

The Lord invites us to “Lift up thy eyes” (Isaiah 60:4).

When we look to the Savior, He gives us strength beyond our own abilities and understanding. As the Psalmist declared:

“Lift up thy eyes round about, and see: all these are **gathered together**, they are come to thee..."

“My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1–2).

When the future feels uncertain, lift your eyes to Him.

Diligently live the commandments.

"If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God..." (John 7:17).

As we strive to live God's commandments, our testimony grows stronger. In difficult times we naturally seek security and reassurance, but lasting peace is found not in changing circumstances—it is found in trusting God and faithfully following Him.

Answers to prayer and solutions to problems generally come as we act.

Faith also requires action. Answers to prayer and solutions to problems often come as we move forward in faith, not while we wait for every uncertainty to disappear. We pray, act according to the light we have received, seek the Lord again, and continue moving forward with trust.

There are also times when, after praying sincerely, doing all we can, and patiently waiting for greater understanding, the heavens still seem quiet. In those moments, we can place the matter in the Lord's hands, trust His timing, and wait with patience, knowing He is aware of us and will sustain us.

Turn the matter over to the Lord and wait patiently.

When all seems dark, remember His invitation: “Be not afraid, only believe.” As we place our hand in Jesus Christ's hand, lift our eyes to Him, live His commandments, and continue forward in faith, He will strengthen us and guide us through every storm.
